The Blues of the Rain, a solo exhibition at the James Watrous Gallery, Madision, WI. Sep 13 — Nov 3, 2019

The thoughts that shape this exhibition are about rain, earth, and the color blue. The sculptures and paintings are experimental, and each follows a process. Looking around, as you might in a garden, you’ll see gradients of light and color, repetition of shape, uneven surfaces, and the effects of time.

I made the pieces in this show by asking questions and answering. How to: make a mud painting without using mud; describe rainfall—waters of the earth drawn up by the sun and let down; design a book for the rain; make a sculpture that crumbles. The works mix artificial and organic materials, incidental and controlled mark-making. In the rain book, rainfall itself “writes” the pages of the book. The artworks speak to the everlasting movement of time, how we feel so much, and how quickly the world changes.
